It was all worth it, Zarin thought, staring at Abby as her mouth dropped open in shock. He wasn’t sure if she would be impressed or not, seeing as how she thought wearing leggings with a ready-to-wear Balenciaga made for suitable work clothes, but he was pleased that it had some impact on her.

“Lin has our jet ready to leave tomorrow at ten. We’ll fly there, shop for a few hours, fit a meal somewhere in there, and be back here by seven or so,” he said, pushing away from the desk and adjusting his cufflinks.

“By seven,” she murmured, pulling out her phone.

“Yes. Seven. Is that a problem?” he asked, hearing that hint of frustration come back in his voice.

Why did this woman get to him? Or more to the point, why was he letting her get to him?

Women never got to him. It was something he prided himself on, never being the kind of man who would get so caught up in someone that they couldn’t think straight. That they couldn’t control their emotions. Abby was definitely a person that seemed to hold his emotions in the palm of her hand, squeezing them tight at will.

He didn’t like it.

He straightened his shoulders and walked around his desk, sitting down and opening his drawer to pull out the plans he made for their wedding so far.

“No problem,” she muttered. “I just have to work the bridal shower around it; that’s all.”

“What do you mean, work around it?” he asked, shaking himself mentally again. It was her tone that aggravated him. He was flying her to Rodeo Drive, getting ready to drop who knows how much money on her for some clothes, and she was annoyed that it might interfere with wine-drinking time with her girlfriends?

“They’re throwing me a bridal shower, and the least I can do is tell them when I’m available for it. And just so you’re prepared, if our party is starting closer to eight, it’s going to be a long night,” she said, pointing her phone at him and giving him a sassy look that said he was going to have to be happy with it.

“Why would I need to be prepared for your party?” he asked, adding extra sarcasm so she would believe he didn’t care.

“Because when I stagger in sometime after midnight, you’re probably going to be waiting for me at the elevator like I’m some misbehaving child,” she muttered, looking back to her phone when it buzzed. “Just like you did a few minutes ago.”

“Stern father with misbehaving child,” he murmured, leaning back in his chair and looking up at the ceiling. “That could be a fun role-play.”

He didn’t have to look at her to know her fingers had stopped moving as she typed a message to her friends.

Good, he thought. She can let that sink in overnight.

“About this bachelor party you want me to set up. I can probably arrange to have three or four friends fly in next week. They should already be in the Cavendish database.
